Optimize Implant Success with Bone Grafting

What Are Dental Bone Grafts?

Dental bone grafting replaces bone loss and promotes bone growth by adding bone material to the jawbone. In dental bone grafting, an incision is made in the jaw, and other bone material is grafted (attached) to the jaw.

Indications For Dental Bone Grafting

When a tooth is lost and the area is not filled in with an implant right away, the bone underneath where the tooth once was can start to lose density and become weak. To put in an implant, there needs to be enough strong bone to hold and anchor the implant.

Common indications for dental bone grafting include:

  • To provide a solid foundation for dental implants in areas where bone mass is low
  • To lift sinus cavities below your eyes (maxillary sinuses) place dental implants in the upper row of teeth.
  • Preparing for dentures
  • To repair damaged bone from facial or dental trauma
  • To increase the width or density of the jawbone for cosmetic or functional purposes
  • In the event of bone loss caused by gum disease (periodontal disease)

Bone Grafting Types

Autograft

In the procedure, bone is taken from another part of the body and grafted into the jaw.

To restore your jawbone a human donor’s bone is used.
